A visit that will offer the opportunity to fully appreciate sacred art, as well as admire the most significant paintings of Corrado Giaquinto, a renowned 18th century artist originally from Molfetta.
Remaining in the most ancient part of the town, on the opposite shore of the port, you can admire another splendid church — the Basilica of Madonna dei Martiri, which houses fascinating attractions including the Permanent Nativity Scene, the Museum of Popular Devotion and the Crusaders' Hospital, dating back to the 11th century.
Another defining strength of the town is the millennia-old relationship between Molfetta and the sea. Among the many unmissable experiences, a visit to the Ethnographic Museum of the Sea is an absolute must — dedicated to the fishing activity that has always been the lifeblood of the Molfetta community. The museum is located within the premises of the San Domenico Factory.

Santo Stefano Church
La chiesa di Santo Stefano, sede dell’omonima Confraternita, si trova sulla via che costeggia il porto di Molfetta e sulla quale si snodano i principali monumenti della città. La sua facciata in stile rinascimentale, perfettamente incastonata tra i palazzi di Corso Dante, è caratterizzata da due cupole in asse e dal rivestimento maiolicato del piccolo e caratteristico campanile.

In origine chiamata Santa Maria del Piano, la Chiesa della Morte sorge nel cuore del borgo antico di Molfetta. Tanti i racconti tramandati su questo luogo, di cui sono da sempre custodi i Confratelli dell’Arciconfraternita del Sacco Nero o della Morte.
In passato la principale funzione dell’Arciconfraternita e della Chiesa della Morte era legata all’esigenza di dare degna sepoltura ai defunti.
La sepoltura avveniva all’interno della chiesa e le salme erano riposte in una fossa comune che le conduceva direttamente in mare. Oggi, il ruolo della confraternita della Morte è legato soprattutto ai riti della Settimana Santa e in particolar modo alla Processione della Pietà, che si svolge durante il Sabato Santo..
