Brass bands
TraditionsBrass bands represent a distinctive element of the cultural tradition of Puglia Federiciana, a region rich in history and artistic heritage.
These musical ensembles, often known as "bande da giro" (travelling bands), are central figures at numerous patron saint festivals, religious processions and civic events, helping to keep the region's historical memory and local identity alive.
Recently, the Regione Puglia officially recognised the importance of these bands, passing a law for their promotion, support and safeguarding. This measure aims to protect and promote Apulian brass band culture, regarded as a heritage belonging to the whole community.
A significant example of this commitment is the founding of the Fondazione Orchestra Sinfonica Federiciana, officially presented in Bisceglie. This ambitious project aims to celebrate the region's musical heritage and create opportunities for young musicians, building on the existing experience of the all-female orchestra Bat Note di Puglia.
The richness and variety of the brass bands of Puglia Federiciana bear witness to a deeply rooted and vibrant tradition, one that continues to evolve thanks to the commitment of local institutions and the passion of local communities.
